Brownfield Remediation – Living the High Life

In the remediation game we often find interesting or unusual artifacts buried in the ground. However, on this occasion an above ground find took us by surprise!

Redstart was retained to complete some localised demolition & enabling works. As a prudent contractor we procured an ecological survey to ensure the building was not providing habitat for bats or birds. No protected species were identified.

However, it was evident that the building had been the habitat of some [unauthorised] tenants that had set-up a cannabis farm! It had subsequently been shut down by police but their paraphernalia was left lying around.

When there is such demand for new homes, it’s a shame these buildings are left empty for so long, sterilising potential re-development. Happily, in this case the site was brought back to use with construction of new homes.
